Some years ago we met Abigail Keam through our farmers' market and have always been
interested in what she does, so....
Blue Moon Farm has teamed up with .....Abigail, the honey lady!!!

For the first time, in 2006 we will have some hives on Blue Moon Farm, and we're so excited about it!   We'll start small, and hope for one harvest of a buckwheat/wildflower blend this year.
Watch this page for updates and photos as the season goes on.

Monday, April 24, 2006....
The bees have arrived!!!  Abigail and husband Peter came out yesterday and set up 8 hives.  Four are down on the bottom and four up top near our gate.  It was interesting to be around so many bees, but they seemed to be most uninterested in us!  They have a lot of work to do to get settled into their new homes, and they seemed anxious to get started.   What a gentle bunch they are!  Only one sting in the whole process....right on Abigail's nose!!  She's so used to it, she hardly flinched!  We're so glad to have them here and hope they thrive on our farm.

Abigail and Peter set up hives on our river bottom.....garlic growing in foreground.

Leo keeps his distance while Abigail works.

Abigail uses smoke to calm the bees before moving them to the hive.....

Peter feeds them to help them get started.

The buckwheat begins to grow.
