by Ronni Lundy

What can we say about this terrific book? Ronni is a friend we met through our Louisville Farmers' Market. We liked her immediately, and at first had no idea she was a writer. One day she let on that she wrote for Louisville Magazine, and was doing a piece on breads (we were carrying a wonderful sourdough at the time). She wanted to send a photographer by to snap some pictures, and a reporter to ask questions. The photographer turned out to be John Nation who did the photos in this book. He took bread and garlic photos.
When Butter Beans to Blackberries was published we began to get garlic inquiries from new customers who all mentioned the book! We decided she must have given us a listing in a "where to buy" section or something, but being in the midst of our hectic season didn't get to even look at a copy of the book til late fall. A quick trip through a bookstore and a quicker flip through the book confirmed our suspicions.
Knowing this, Jean's parents gave us a copy of Butterbeans for Christmas. Imagine how stunned (and delighted!) we were to find a page and a half inset about our farm and our garlic!
It is rare to find a cookbook that makes such good reading!! Ronnie's stories are fascinating (and mouth-watering in many cases!) Obviously a great deal of research was involved, and one comes to wish they'd been along on the journeys!!
This is an excellent source book for hard-to-find regional delicacies (and in some cases, where to buy the seeds to grow them yourself!), an indispensable recipe book for many traditional Southern foods, not to mention a restaurant guide to a whole range of Dixie's best offerings.GARLIC GROWING

We highly recommend this book!!
